AEW24306 - Field Project Marine Sciences - Intake form & own contribution

Introduction

Dear participant to the course AEW-24306 - or Field Project Marine Sciences, planning a field practical involves extensive logistics and requires specific information that isn’t needed for a typical on-campus course. For example, having cell phone numbers to reach you in the field is essential.

Please take a few minutes to answer the questions below. This will help us organize a better and safer trip for everyone involved!

To keep all information as much as possible in the same place, we have chosen to incorporate the questionnaire into the payment platform this year. Please be aware, that we cannot access the necessary information to prepare this fieldtrip until you have completed the entire questionnaire, including the payment of the "own contribution"  (€85,-) at the end of this questionnaire.

All information that you share will be handled confidentially. I have also included brief explanations why we need certain pieces of information.

Please kindly respond within the next four weeks (until 05/05/2025)

Should you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and understanding in advance!

Preferred Pronouns

We strive to create an inclusive and respectful environment for everyone. Sharing your preferred pronouns is completely optional, but it helps us address and refer to each other correctly. If you're comfortable, please let us know how you'd like to be addressed.

Groupwork formation

For the preparations of the group formation process on the first day of the course, we would like to know your prefered role in groupwork.

Please take the the Belbin test attached to the welcome e-mail for yourself, and fill in the role that you score most points on below.

Note: Remember the associated marine organism attached to your role as shown in the" totals" sheet of the excel file, we will use it in the first lecture of the course to form groups.

Field week: Accommodation and Food Preferences

Due to the large group size we have to divide the group over two accommodations. This year, we're excited to be staying near the Koog on Texel. The main accommodation is the Zilvermeeuw where we will have breakfast and dinner together and where we will build up our main facilities, such as our field laboratory. The second accommodation where part of the group will stay is the Fekonsieskuur which is an accommodation and is a 5 minute bike ride from the Zilvermeeuw.

We will pre-divide the group over the two locations based on your preferences (where possible).

Both accommodations are group-accommodations, and have dormitories with bunk beds. The sizes of the dormitories vary between 8 to 24 people.

Breakfast and Dinner will be provided at the Zilvermeeuw. It is a small kitchen, we are a big group and alternative foods are in limited supply on the island. Our host does his best to accommodate most common food preferences and requirements, but please be considerate about the urgency of your requests.

Field week: Health and Emergency Information

As we embark on our field practical, which includes long bike rides (30 km) and hours of work on mudflats, your safety and well-being are our top priorities! To ensure that we can provide a safe and supportive environment for everyone, it's crucial that we are informed about any health conditions or concerns you may have.

Please rest assured that any information you share will be treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality. It will only be shared with teaching staff on a strict need-to-know basis, such as during days when we split into smaller groups and specific medical details are essential for your safety. For example, I'll confidentially inform the accompanying teacher of any severe allergies you may have to ensure your safety.

Your cooperation in providing this information is greatly appreciated and will help us ensure a memorable and safe experience for all participants.

Bicycles

During the excursion on Texel, we will use bikes as main mode of transportation to minimize our impact on the island. Riding a bike on Texel to reach remote sampling locations can be a challenging experience for some participants, due to a variety of health/experience reasons. Please indicate in the questions below if you expect any difficulties regarding our main mode of transportation on the island.

Code of Conduct:

Making excursions an unforgettable experience is our shared responsibility. This means that we agree on and follow certain rules for respectful interactions. Please read the code of conduct attached to the welcome e-mail carefully.
