On August 24, you can chose among 5 workshops in the afternoon (15:45-17:45)​​

When you register, you’ll have the chance to make a preliminary choice for your preferred workshop or activity.

1-Earthworms and soil chemistry

In this two-hour workshop you will focus on the close relation between earthworms and soil chemistry. In talks and hands-on experience you will discover how these soil invertebrates affect and are affected by the chemistry of their surroundings. Special attention will be paid to the effects of earthworms on, and of, emerging contaminants.

2-Earthworms and ecoacoustics

Earthworms may not speak, but they do produce sounds that can be detected with sensors and recorded. In this workshop, we will explore how these sounds can be captured and what they reveal.

3-Macrophotography of earthworms

Have you ever dreamed of seeing earthworms up close and capturing their hidden beauty? Join Frank Ashwood for a hands-on workshop where you’ll receive a technical introduction to macrophotography and learn how to photograph the true celebrity of this conference.

4-How to communicate with society (only for Rising Worm Stars applications)

During this two hours workshop the 10 selected early career researchers “Rising worm stars” participants will have the opportunity to learn more about storytelling techniques with the actor Emma Holmes. The participants will get practical tips on how apply these newly acquired techniques on their scientific work as a way improve their skills on science communication and reach a broader audience with their scientific research.

5-Charming earthworms

Work together to lure earthworms to the surface, without digging. The team that attracts the most, or impresses with the most creative technique, wins the challenge. And rest assured: every earthworm is safely returned to its natural habitat afterward.
