Sandpit Session: The Future Hospital

The challenge of making it circular and green

27 May | 09:30-12:30

Interested researchers and practitioners are invited to this Sandpit workshop session, organized by the working group Circular Society of the alliance between TU/e, WUR, UU and UMC Utrecht to identify and explore future research questions together.

Our healthcare sector is a major polluter and circularity is not introduced in most of our daily processes. The overall objective of this session is to identify topics where the knowledge and expertise of our four institutions can make a difference. We start with plenary pitches in which we discuss the present situation and define our overall goals. In the breakout sessions, we will explore and discuss first topics of our collaboration. Promising ideas and projects will receive follow-up and budget for realization in a future session.

Agenda

  • Pitches from practice by UMC Utrecht
  • The 9 R's of the circular society (refuse, reduce, recycle, etc.)
  • Thematic breakouts to dig deeper and unravel the challenges
  • Wrap up and next steps

Topics on our radar

  • Disposables and waste
  • Energy transition in healthcare
  • Impact of pharmaceuticals on water
  • Integrate environmental and social impacts in daily practice: From ethics to practical solutions.
