Navigating Transdisciplinary Complexity Through Adaptive Expertise

EWUU Alliance Education Research Event

28th of October 2025

14:00 – 17:00 hrs

Utrecht University

Over the last years, the EWUU Alliance conducted research on the topics of adaptive expertise and transdisciplinary learning. During this day we wish to:

(1) present our research discoveries and

(2) translate these into directions for EWUU education research in the next two years (2026-2027), resulting in a research agenda for transdisciplinary learning.

Are you a researcher in transdisciplinary learning trajectories or affective learning processes, or are you (aspiring to) teach a transdisciplinary course, or would you like to embark on a transdisciplinary student journey?

Please join us for an afternoon of discussion and provide input for our joint EWUU Alliance Education learning agenda.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us in case of any questions via Yvette.

Warm regards, on behalf of EWUU Education Research and the organizing committee,

Fennie van Straalen (EWUU), Erika van Gennip (EWUU), Despoina Georgiou (UU), Lisette van Bruggen-Taverne (UMCU), Jan van Tartwijk (UU), Marieke van der Schaaf (UMCU), Antoine van den Beemt (TU/e) and Yvette Baggen (EWUU/WUR)

Spotlight on the book: Empowering the Next Generation of Entrepreneurial Change Agents

A Design Science Approach to Transforming Entrepreneurial Education

During this afternoon, a spotlight is shown on the book on adaptive expertise "Empowering the Next Generation of Entrepreneurial Change Agents", in which different EWUU research projects are presented. In the book, research studies and education practices are presented on the topic of adaptive expertise, which can be perceived a key learning outcome of transdisciplinary learning journeys.

Initiated from HEErI (Higher Engineering Education research & Innovation), a 4TU.CEE initiative (Centre for Engineering Education). Editors of the book, Antoine van den Beemt (TU/e), Yvette Baggen (WUR) - both part of HEErI redaction of 4TU.CEE - together with Jan van Tartwijk (UU) and Marieke van der Schaaf (UMCU), are also engaged in EWUU Education Research.
