Future-Proofing Care for Older Adults

 

Join us for a dynamic session focused on maximizing health impact for older adults, especially those living at home. This session starts with talks from experts in the field of care for older adults.

Optimizing recovery after a hip fracture: the role of nutrition, exercise, and demographic differences  by Inge Groenendijk 

Hip fractures seriously affect the quality of life of patients. Only half of the patients regain their pre-fracture mobility, they lose weight and muscle mass, and a quarter die within the following year. The number of hip fractures is expected to rise sharply due to the ageing population. Therefore, optimizing treatment is essential. Inge Groenendijk will tell us about a project investigating the effects of dietary protein and exercise on bone and muscle health and quality of life of hip fracture patients. Within this trial, how do we ensure a good representation of different groups of older people? Furthermore, she will dive into differences in prevalence and recovery between sexes and ethnicities. 

 

Improving Care for Older Adults: Building a National and Regional Academic Living Lab by Nienke Bleijenberg

In this session, I will share how we can enhance care for older adults living at home by creating a collaborative infrastructure with clinical, research, and educational partners. I will present our goals, ambitions, and highlight the active participation of older adults in our research and innovation projects. Key examples and lessons learned will be shared, illustrating the importance of their involvement in addressing current and future healthcare challenges.
