Presenters and workshop leads
Corien Swaan is a MD specialised in Infectious Disease Control. In 2019, she obtained her PhD through her thesis ‘Timeliness of infectious disease notification & response systems’ at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. During the COVID-19 pandemic she worked at the National Coordination Center for Infectious Disease Control (LCI/CIb/RIVM) and was member of the National Outbreak Management Team (OMT). Since 2022 she is principle expert in (pandemic) preparedness at the CIb/RIVM, coordinating the LCI program to strengthen the National and Regional infectious disease control structure. She is NFP Preparedness & Response for the ECDC, and head of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Infectious Disease Preparedness and IHR Monitoring & Evaluation.”
Corien Swaan will introduce the panel discussion on Day 2: Pandemic preparedness from an international perspective, with her talk: 'Future One Health needs for prevention and preparedness'
Day 3
Sylvia Brugman is an associate professor at the Host-Microbe Interactions (HMI) group at Wageningen University. Her passion is the complex cross-over between the host immune system and the intestinal microbiota. In her research Sylvia makes use of the zebrafish as a model organism. Excitingly, in zebrafish you can follow immune cells and microbes in vivo live under the microscope. Sylvia was involved in the creation of the Centre for Unusual Collaborations (CUCo). This is part of the Alliance between TU/e, UMCU, UU and WUR. CUCo provides trans- and interdisciplinary skills (SPARK) training as well as provides early career researchers with a safe space to meet each other and set-up unusual collaborations. Since 2023 Sylvia is a SPARK trainer and, in this capacity, provides workshops for CUCo besides her work as associate professor.
Meghann Ormond is an associate professor at the Cultural Geography (GEO) group at Wageningen University. She is deeply invested in and concerned with, how different mobile peoples’ roots, rights and vulnerabilities are recognised and included in the places where they live and visit. Meghann’s work focuses on how shifting visions and practices of citizenship and belonging impact trans-national mobility, heritage, health, and care relationships. She regularly develops and supports initiatives together with non-governmental organizations, policy makers and industry actors on issues related to different themes. An example of this is her work as curator and cofounder of Roots Guide and Migrantour Utrecht. Meghann is also co-developer of the Centre for Unusual Collaborations’ (CUCo) SPARK interdisciplinary research training program.
Sylvia Brugman and Meghann Ormond are workshop lead of Workshop 1. One Health Collaborations: Get out of your head and into the process.
Cees Leeuwis is professor of Collaborative Research, Communication and Change at the Knowledge, Technology, and Innovation (KTI) group at WUR. In his work he studies processes of socio-technical innovation, scaling and transformation in networks, collaboration between different disciplines, research for development policy, the functioning of innovation support systems and the role of innovation platforms, science communication, extension, and brokers therein. In Wageningen he is active in many different domains including sustainable agriculture, natural resources management, poverty related diseases and inclusive value chains.
Harro Maat is an associate professor at the Knowledge, Technology, and Innovation (KTI) group of Wageningen University. In his work he focuses on the social aspects of science and technology aimed at cross-cutting solutions for health, food, and ecology. Harro has a particular interest in people’s skill and technique, developed in contexts where health, food and ecology are naturally connected.
Cees Leeuwis and Harro Maat are the leads of Workshop 2. One Health Collaborations: What makes or breaks an interdisciplinary project?
